Blue Angel Food Review

Every year since the year after Katrina, the great people of Plaquemine’s Parrish & The Blue Angel have welcomed Give Back Cincinnati with open arms and thrown an amazing shrimp boil! This year was no different, with lbs and lbs of great food, craziness, beer, flip cup with a whole lot of great people!

For whatever reason, 50 loving, silly people load up on a bus and head to help the people of New Orleans rebuild. This year we spent Monday painting at Arise Academy in preparation for their upcoming school year. Then we loaded back on the bus and headed to the southernmost parts of the Louisiana. When they got there the The Blue Angel was ready with scrimps on scrimps on scrimps!  I think the most fun part of this is the peeling of shrimp and trying to eat as much as possible before getting iodine poisoning.  Take frequent breaks, make sure there’s a beer within arm’s reach (might be your’s, might not) and eat some of the potatoes & corn, they’re boiled in special fairy dust that makes them sooooooo good!

The night isn’t complete until the Nati kids start playing flip cup.  We even roped the locals into our game that starts out as 10, and grows to approximately 28 or more pairs.  Game after game after game.  I quit when one of the bartenders bought us a bottle of blueberry vodka to play flip cup with.  Ma’am, are you crazy?!  It was an amazing night, one I won’t soon forget, as I was proposed to by a handsome man of 80, but won’t be able to fulfill that commitment since it was made while intoxicated.  I drank nameless shots, wrestled my arms outta my shirt, laughed till I cried and danced with a bunch of silly kids that I’m honored to call friends.

Every time we head to New Orleans, I feel like I’m returning home. This is living.
