What Bri's Cooking

I have a lifelong love affair with food. It may very-well be an unhealthy love affair. So?! I eat, ask, wonder, talk, think, sample and read about food, recipes and cooking so much that I figured, why not create a blog?!

Mama Josephine’s food review.

I’m a sucker for a Mom & Pop Spot, so when a local St Louis person recommended Mama Josephine’s, I couldn’t wait to try it out! I opted for carry out, I was getting off work on a Friday afternoon & couldn’t wait to crash. I ordered the fried chicken meal with yams & fried okra as my sides with cornbread. They told me it was going to be about 20 minutes & my annoyance level skyrocketed, but I calmed myself with the thought that my food would be really fresh, right? I didn’t feel like waiting there, so I ran to the store around the corner & it was done by the time I came back. I got home and sure enough the chicken was piping hot. It was juicy and fried really well. Then came the sides…. the yams were bland & mushy and the okra was okay, not seasoned enough for me. I didn’t love the breading, something about it wasn’t quite right. The cornbread was ALL wrong. It was so mealy and tasteless. I felt like they could have just used a jiffy mix and been way better off. Mind you I am not one to food bash, but I need to be clear that I was not pleased to the point that had a I been in the restaurant, I would have given the food back. Not traded it, just given it back to stress that they should put more passion into the food. That being said the chicken was good, but please don’t serve a meal that you wouldn’t yourself be delighted to sit down and eat.
